My agent at the service shop sent these pictures in. LKQ Powertrain. Does anyone on Oppo know anything about this manufacturer? The more I know, the better. I’ve greenlit the installation.

LKQ is basically supposed to be a low cost alternative to OEM. LKQ parts are used a lot for vehicles that have been in an accident.

What about sturdiness, quality? Are they equivalent or better than OEM, or should I be worried about it twisting itself to pieces when I unleash all 250HP on tap?

LKQ is just a distributor/seller of used OE and new/used/reman aftermarket parts

Then who ACTUALLY did the remanufacturing work? That’s what I need to know.

When I apprenticed as a mechanic we used lkq for most parts(motors, axles, and think trannies too).

The quality of the work is Worker Johnny at its finest, the repaint they do is really meh(clean off most of the dirt and overspray the rest in either silver or black. Most of the time the mechanical work is good, the one time I saw it not pan out the warranty replaced the motor.(so I imagine their warranty is decent)

250hp on tap is equal to 200 at the wheels. should be safe.......

From what I understand they are supposed to be as good as OEM. Basically you have two kinds of parts; OEM and LKQ. LKQ stands for Like Kind and Quality, so basically it is like aftermarket. LKQ also does used/recycled parts when it comes to vehicle repair. LKQ parts are used all the time so I personally don’t see an issue. This is just my opinion, though.

“Worker Johnny at its finest”? Not familiar with the adage.

I’d be happy if it could also stand up to 450HP from a Coyote, since that engine upgrade is still in the offing in the next decade.

A worker Johnny is someone who’s only at work to get paid and do the very least necessary to get that result. They care little about quality or effort unless it is necessary to look busy. Government road workers are an easy target for the Worker Johnny, hold a sign lazily, fill the pot hole somewhat and not tamp it down, stand around and delegate.

It was mostly a joke in lkqs case, their mechanical work I’m sure is quality 97% of the time. I’ve seen some stuff though all of which has to do with lazy painting of rebuilt parts. Paint silver over aluminum(that’s already silver), paint over dirt that you can pick off with your finger, paint over dirt and rust, generally not give a damn about the finish. To be fair the person who cleans and paints is probably different then the person who rebuilts the part.

You know what would be more badass than a Coyote? The 4-valve 5.4 from the Navigators of the early 00s.

LKQ is a pick-and-pull place that also does some “remanufacturing”.
